Club competitions hot up...
Having now passed the mid point of the 2024 season, the club competitions are now taking shape and there are clear favourites in each category.
Currently the handicap points and junior points battle are neck and neck, with Mark Thurlow and Fred Barlow duking it out for the handicap, and Isabel Beale vs William Barlow in the Junior points competition. Club captain Kevin seems to have an unassailable lead in the 'Club champion' competition, but the key question for Kevin is when will he do a TT bike 25 and challenge for the fastest 25 award??
In the 100 miles and BAR award, nobody else is crazy enough to do such a thing so Paul Looke seems to be racing against the clock for that magical 22 mph mark and it's very hard to look beyond Lousie Robinson for the 50, 25 and 10 awards (subject to riding enough club events to qualify!).
Elsewhere on road bikes, Sarah Wenham and Fred Barlow have strong leads in their respective points competitions but will need to score good points throughout July and August to ensure victory come next years award ceremony.
Finally, the vets points battle could turn go any way currently, with realistically 3 riders in contention. Gary Jackson currently leads here, but a late surge by Debbie Coyle or Andrew Wenham could unseat him. One to watch...
